Bhavna, from the UK, remembering those student night outs…
As a graduate, I find myself pining for my student bar and the old faces from my outings in town. Oh how I wish I was a student again, with a seemingly endless student loan! I may have only just graduated but I miss student life a lot and everything that went with a night out at Uni. Here’s how it went.
The amount of time it takes for me to get ready has increased with each student year and I take a lot more time to pamper myself now. Getting ready would probably start with a trip to the shops. I love getting a brand new dress for a night although this now means that my LBD’s outnumber my jumpers and I’m a bit stuck for winter! I always feel best when I’ve got a dress on during a night out with hopefully not too high heels!
At home, I would do a quick ‘dress rehearsal’, during which I’d ask my housemates for their opinion and prance around the house far too much. Then I’d have something to eat and sit down to watch Hollyoaks and after that it would be time to get ready!
After a lifetime in the shower, I’d grab a drink from the kitchen that one of housemates would kindly make for me and get ready. You need music whilst you’re getting ready and I love blasting out the Yeah Yeah Yeahs or something similar, whilst always making sure my glass gets topped up.

From grimy indie clubs to student bars, I never mind where I am, so long as the music is great and I can have a dance. And if University has taught me anything, it’s that it doesn’t matter where you are, it’s who you’re with and so long as I have my friends in a dancing circle around me or helping me prop up the bar then I know my night out will be great.
